Our commitment

The Reconnected Land is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology used. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

Recent accessibility review

On 22 August 2026 we carried out a full accessibility review of the site (automated testing with axe-core across every page, plus manual checks) and fixed every issue it surfaced that was within our control. Concretely, we:

  • Corrected heading structure across the site so pages read in a logical, unbroken order for screen readers (no more skipped or duplicated heading levels)
  • Marked the site footer as a proper landmark region, and removed several incorrect ARIA roles that had been applied to page sections
  • Raised low-contrast text and links (including a shared design colour used sitewide) to meet the 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio
  • Added missing descriptive alt text to images that had none
  • Fixed our booking widgets (Amelia) so each one is announced as a distinct region instead of conflicting with the page's main content area
  • Added keyboard focus handling to our pop-ups (bug report, gift access, and “coming soon”) so focus moves into them on open and returns to where you were on close
  • Labelled the icon-only controls on our audio/video players (play, back, forward, volume, fullscreen) so they announce properly to screen readers

What we've done

Alongside the review above, the site is built with the following in place:

  • Images include descriptive alt text
  • The site is navigable using keyboard only, including a “skip to main content” link on every page
  • Colour contrast ratios are designed to be readable for users with visual impairments
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • The website uses semantic HTML structure (headings, landmarks, lists)
  • Forms include visible labels and descriptive error messages
  • Videos from YouTube include auto-generated captions where available

Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas that may not yet fully meet accessibility standards:

  • Some older embedded content (PDF documents) may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Our booking system (Amelia) is provided by a third-party plugin; we've corrected the landmark and contrast issues we could reach, but its internal booking flow follows that plugin's own accessibility implementation, which we don't fully control
  • We run automated checks regularly, but automated testing cannot catch every accessibility issue — if something doesn't work for you, please tell us using the contact details below

We are working to address these issues over time.
